Cricket; Is it Really For you?
November 27th 2006 01:06
It could be and you just don't know it yet!
I have put up with cricket for years, I call it love and being supportive of my partner. That's me kind and sharing all over, but it wasn't easy let me tell you!
There was a lot of kicking and screaming on my part, I thouroughly believed that someone was trying to brainwash me into something they dubbed as; Australian, sport'man'like, relaxing and here's a whopper, both intelligent and strategic.
Oh well when I heard those last two words I laughed for a long time...it made my partner sad, but then something happened...I said "I challenge you..."
I cjallenged him to show my just how clever and strategic this game was. I promised to watch 2 hours worth of a game (THAT IS AN ETERNITY FOR ME TRUST ME).
In this 2 hours the following was to be acheived: Excitement or at least some increase in heart rate from me, interest and concern for the out come.
A tough call for something I swore a lifetime of indifference to but here goes...
All of the above was acheived.
Yes it's true...I was ashamed to admit it, but years later here i am telling you and everyone that in the day night game that I watched where Australia won by 1 run, I cared A LOT!.
There was nail biting, nervousness and a HUGE interest...
I asked questions like, who are these people, what are their names and what is so great about what they are doing now - how do they know where to be and what the fricken hell is a square leg?
I don't remember the answers to these questions, and I don't know how to read one of these:
...But I know this;
Cricket is OK by me, yes I have been to the games and I can't sit still or drink beer so that is not good for me, BUT it is a part of my life now because it is relaxing and I feel some good ol' patriotism in there (that's a tough thing these days).
Cricket is there to relax me when I drive and in the background when I need to work or concentrate...as you can see I am not a purist, but by crickey the roads are safer when that is on on my car.
Let me know if you give cricket a chance, and remember, it takes time.

To Anonymii:
I have also given the best part of a day..a couple of times, as I have been to watch the cricket...I just can't sit for that long...I am also interested in the outcome of the next test...it will be on in the background, but at the mo' there's no trepidation...should I be trepidatious?
Celeb FOX - FO' SHIZ - cricket Is for you? just give it a chance - there are celebs there - massive ones, they just aren't as sexy as the ones discussed in you blogs...But I don't know I am sure some ppl do think they are hunkey???
Cibby: I know 2 hours is nothing...but I ask for credit for trying...I have concern now - I really have come a long way!

I'm one of the converted ... I love cricket.
Ever since the Ashes series in the early nineties when Steve Waugh came bounding into my life via my TV screen.
Damn fine sport, if you ask me (some damn fine looking players out there too!!).
Keep trying, it's definitely worth giving cricket a go.

I was hoping for some pin up boys but The sport is that good that you don't need them...
I guess Michael Clarke is cute...maybe I'm just too fussy!
