Cup Day Schmup Day...Am I a Humbug?
November 6th 2006 01:08
Everyone's going loco with the fever...the Melbourne Cup fever that is.
No I'm not a gambler but if there's fun to be had I am generally of want to be in the midst of it...even if involves the odd flutter. So why have I got my knickers in a knot about cup day?
I know it will be fun, there's no denying that, it usually is, but this cup day is marred by work.
Is yours? It shouldn't matter, my work place is sponsoring the fun but herein lies the conflict. How much fun do i want to have in my work environment. I am still newish where I work and sure 1 drink never hurts and neither does a social lunch BUT I don't know if I'm ready to commit to socialising and being merry.
Wait, I just read that and I sound like a humbug indeed. Ok so my real problem is you have to "frock up" to be part of the merriment...there you have it I have come clean.
I don't know if I'm ready to wear a dress and look like a "lady" in the work place. I'm a trouser/shirt person and well a dress is a big step. And no I don't have any "dress" suits so what do I do? Just count myself out...wear the usual.
Oh why does dress have to be so important...but then why do I have to be such a chicken...I wouldn't feel so torn if I knew i would be among friends.
What are you doing tomorrow? Maybe I'll read up on it while I sit this one out.
