Is The Best of Everything Always At Home
October 23rd 2007 08:33
So far, the answer is yes.
I haven’t been away from home for long so I am staying open minded…with a heavy bias on home, and that being Australia!
I have just moved to London and everyone tells me the best curry is here…so I went in search of it and found Brick Lane.
Every restaurant spruiker was happily welcomed by me and my friends. We thanked for their seemingly generous offers; free wine, free entrees nothing over ten pounds – is this for real?
It was.
It didn’t take long for our party to take one of the restaurants up on their offer. We had had few bevvies and were up for a good meal. My tastebuds were prepped for something great. So we ordered up:
A Vindaloo
The Tikka Masala
A house special
A seafood dish
Naan, rice, raita,
And their recommended entrée plate.
A good mix of the standards and the specials, I was paying close attention to any dish I could compare to anything I had had before and of course I was interested to see if their “special” really were indeed special – or just a talk.
And there it was my first English curry…well first Indian curry in England – after all the ‘talking up’ it had had, all the rave reviews and all the waiting, the dinner was done.
The verdict;
well there’s a little place on Parramatta Road, Annandale in Syndey Australia that I do believe still has my number 1 ranking…
Surjits, I am staying faithful to you.
So what’s next?
They also tell me the best pub grub is here…I’ve yet to order the traditional bangers and mash, but so far I have had a fancy pub meal with a fancy price tag. Delicious, but expensive and definitely not ‘the best’ but I will keep trying.
As for the beers – well there’s nothing like a cold Aussie beer!

How long are you staying in London for? It's quite a city isn't it? I'm originally from the UK and spent a few years in London, in Clapham and had loads of great times.
Brick Lane is definitely the place for a curry but there are also a million curry places all around so there's no lack of choice.
I might have to try that place you mentioned in Annandale, I love a good curry.
Have fun,
Tracy
