Make Yourself a Dang Quesadilla Napoleon
November 21st 2006 10:48
It's a new wave, it's a bit of a gimmick but it's bloody tasy and as Maccas would say "I'm Lovin' It".
And no, it's not anything that McDonalds has been doing...well not here anyway.
Here, is Sydney, and at the moment I have been noticing a heck of a lot of mexican taco houses popping up, and themed burger joints. These places aren't dodgy either, well I speak for one in particular and that is a place called Guzman Y Gomez.
They don't do much but what they do is brilliant...you don't have ot take my word for it either, the line that goes out the door every night of the week speaks for itself.
So what do they do that's so great:
Quesadillas
Tacos
Burritos
Oh and 1 desert...the only one worth serving: Flan.
If you want to check the website its: www.guzmanygomez.com
It's not just about this place it's about the movement in general...there's a place called BBNT (Burgers Burritos Tacos Nachos) and another called Burger Fuel, which is about to open.
These places also have a specific theme...Burger Fuel is a 50s burger bar and BBNT, has a more modern feel.
There was a time the only place you could go to get this kind of a snack was McDonalds, Aporto or KFC or one of the other big un's...is this a response to a hole in the market...sure we as a diet conscious people have gone healthy, but we haven't forgotten the fun of snack food. And you know with the right fresh ingredients and not too many fancy sauces burgers and burritos are quite healthy foods, for a meal or a substantal snack.
I'm all for the new wave, but I'm interested to see how it goes, I'd also like to know what you may have noticed in your area...is it just me that's noticed this trend, is it just Sydney's turn...OR is this something that's generally happening.
I hope it sticks around, and maybe even sticks it to the "big guys" of fast food.

anyhoo - in reply, the burritos are 9.90...the illusion of under 10 bucks - but i say they were filling and one was enough...I'm a pretty good eater so a $10 meal makes me happy...and you can get 3 tacos for $10...BUT you really have to see for yourself...I think I enjoyed it so much because I FINALLY found a mexican restaurant that ISN'T nassssty!
