Dave Hughes, A Rising Star...I sure hope so.

November 2nd 2006 21:58
After the dismissal of the Glass House, the parting words I took with me were "I'm angry". I wasn't personally angry, a bit sad yes, but Dave Hughes said "I'm angry" He said it repeatedly and the way he said it made me laugh...anything he says makes me laugh...he's a funny guy and I believe holds the essence of Australian humour.

"I'm aaaaaaaaangry". Can you hear him say that in a voice that no one can replicate? I am a fan, I confess - but there's nothing swooning or 'stalker' about my feelings for Dave (you can breathe a sigh of relief mate). I just want to know when and where you will appear on the tele next?

Are you going to sell out to one of the free to air beasts...will you slink around the cable stand up shows or stick to your pubs and clubs and comedy nights? I hope you are saying yes to all of these options, but PARTICULARLY to the 'selling out' bit.

WHY? I think more Australians need to be exposed to Dave Hughes, more people need to laugh and be reminded of a larrikin Australian attitude...and just quietly I'm sick of Australian comedy at the moment. The best laugh I've had (apart from dave) was a result of a Kiwi stand up...and yes I will claim him as Australian thanks!

But even the funnies that I do find...they are not mainstream - they are in small secluded bars or on cable tv or, once upon a time on the ABC. I know that is where they live - that is what they are bonded to and is part of the cult culture of comedy in Australia and in most places in the world...but I feel that it is time to sell out - sell out and wake up the masses I say.

Dave I think you're the one to do it, but whatever you do don't go corporate on our asses and become like a breakfast duo I once loved.

Dave is a panelist on Before the Game, so I don't think he would be adverse to selling out. The real question is what would be the best vehicle for him to appear on? He's well suited to panel shows, so it would be great if another show could come along and fill the gap left by the Glass House. I'm not sure if that will happen though. Maybe one of the commercial networks will give him a hosting gig of some kind?

Hi, Vixter here - for some reason I wasn't able to log in to this page...
I totally agree - that's the kind of thing I was thinking...some sort of 'hosting" even thought they can be a bit pedestrian...they get out there and people notice.

I'm hoping it'll make for funnier television all around - none of this 'safe' crap that's out there right now.

I think Dave Hughes is a damn funny guy. I've seen him dressed up as a four-twenty pie, and it was brilliant!

Sweet Maria, I've never seen that...I just laugh when he starts talking...I guess on the flipside it'd be hard to take him seriously but its about comedy - so no seriousness here thanks
