Become Human Again.

March 23rd 2010 04:06
A few things have annoyed me in the past few days.

1. The wrong spelling in texts - it confuses me!
2. People trying to have a conversation via SMS
3. People firing/breaking up via text.

Rule number 1: If you don't know how to spell it, check it.
Now misspelling doesn't annoy everyone, but there are a few people, like me, who go a little banana's over it. Waist instead of waste, there instead of they're. Cringe! I'm a journalist. It's part of my job to be able to spell correctly. When people can't spell it makes me wonder if my right spelling is actually wrong because I see it spelt a different way so often. www.dictionary.com - works a charm.

Rule number 2: Don't start a conversation via SMS
Let me start with a text message I received last night from an old friend I haven’t seen in three years. Three years! Lots to catch up on in three years you would think. It came in the form of three seemingly harmless words, “Hey, How’s things?” CRINGE!!! I hate getting messages that say “Hey how are you?” or “What did you get up to on the weekend?” Warning warning: this text message will lead to about 50 more texts and give you nothing but a high bill. I could write a whole novel about how things have been in the past three years since I have spoken to this person – why couldn’t he just call? What’s so hard about picking up the phone and dialling? Stupidest text message EVER. If you have ever sent a message like this, shame on you. What has this world come to that we hide our voice and our personalities sending simple text instead through an email, text message or facebook- instead of what’s real, what’s personable and what causes a stronger bond between two people. Fights can escalate out of control through text, when a simple conversation can find a solution.

3. Firing/dumping through text
Grow some balls, Example of someone with no balls, news story today - ‘Girl gets fired on facebook.’ The 16-year-old girls manager posted on her facebook that she had to 'let her go' after she lost 10 dollars while going to buy all the staff biscuits. She was fired in front of all her probably 600-something friends. Lame. This texting phenomenon has to stop. Be a human. Pick up the phone.

. What if SMS was never invented? From now on I want you to imagine it never was, that your phone doesn’t have the function and I want you to do the unimaginable. Pick up the phone and make a call instead. Become Human Again.
…………………..

A 16-year-old UK girl who lost $16 while on an errand found out she lost her job when her manager posted a message on her Facebook page.
Chelsea Taylor was sacked from her Saturday job at a cafe via a heavily misspelt Facebook message, the Daily Mail reported.
Chelsea had been given $16 to go out and buy biscuits for the staff of Cookies, a cafe in Leigh in northern England.
When she lost the money she was notified of her dismissal with a Facebook message from manager Elaine Sutton.
"I had to tell the owner bout u losin that tenner coz obviously the till was down at the end of the day," the message read.
"she wasn't very pleased at all and despite me trying to persuade her otherwise she said I have to let u go."
Chelsea's mother Nicola said the Facebook dismissal was "appalling and heartless".
"I just can't believe they didn't even have the decency to tell her over the phone, let alone in person," she said.
"And to have the message all misspelt with capital letters and apostrophes missing is simply disrespectful and sets no example to other employees."
When Ms Taylor told Ms Sutton she lost the money she offered to replace it but the offer was declined
